  1. I am using Photo Upload 1.1.5.1 for Picasa Web (Google+) … since it’s no secret that Picasa Web is being phased out in favor of Google+, why are my uploaded files directed toward the Picasa Web storage instead of the Google+? I’ve purchased extra space on Google+ and I’d like to use it, and not be hindered by the limitations of Picasa Web. Should I have chosen the Google Drive plugin license? if so, then why is there a Google+ alternative. Hopefully I’ve made this clear enough. I have read most of the posts here, but did not find an answer to my questions. Thank you

    1. Hi,
Picasa Web and Google+ share the same photo space (and therefore the same storage). If you have photos in Picasa Web you can see them in Google+ and vice versa.
      Thanks,
      Rob

    1. Hi. You should actually download the plugin called Photo Upload from the link at the top of this page. That plugin works in the same way as the Picasa Web Upload one but is the plugin that is now being actively maintained. Give it a go!
      Thanks.

  2. Will you be doing an update for the Picasa loader for LR 5? I had the incredibly poor timing of buying it, installing it and getting it to work (really well!) before breaking it with an LR 5 upgrade.

  3. I have been using the publish section in Lightroom for a while now and am totally happy with it. I have a question though. I have been traveling a lot and having been creating and uploading photos via my ipad to Picasa web. Now I would like to see the Albums in the publish section, but I can’t seem to find a way to update it or add the albums I have created. I find the album in the export section of Lightroom. Is there a way to add existing albums on Picasa web to the Publish section? Maybe it is simple but I can’t seem to find out how…

    1. The plug-in currently uploads photos to Picasa Web but does not download photos from it. I may well add this capability in the future but I’m afraid that today it is not possible.

  4. Just as one would expect, the photos are updated in place, no need to republish albums, the face tags (if you don’t resize too much) and comments are kept.

Excelent job Rob. Thank you very much!

  5. Is it possible to keep synced several albums in picasa using this plugin in publisher mode? If i want to use one smart collection per album, setup once and then only add photos into collections – will it work automatically? Or every time i have to select particular album name?

    1. Hi,
There are two ways Lightroom and this plug-in allow you to upload your photos.
      1) Via Export. The plug-in presents you with a list of albums every time you export.
      2) Via Publish. This associates a Picasa Web album with each Published Collection in Lightroom. The Published Collections can be Smart Collections. You are not presented with a list of albums when you used this Publish option.
Hope this makes sense – check out the guide for using the Publish collection – that will do what you want.
To answer your question – you do not have to select the album every time. But the answer makes more sense if you understand the difference between Lightroom’s Export and its Publish features.
Let me know how you get on…

  6. I appreciate that you recommend ‘Export’ over ‘Publish’ but I use Publish a lot.
I’m trying to ‘Create Published Smart Collection’ but nothing is appearing in the field box for selection. Am I doing something wrong?
Finally, I would like to be able to access my current albums but don’t seem to be able to select these in the ‘Publish Services’ only if I export, is this correct? Is it possible to Publish to an existing Album? It would appear not.
    Many thanks,
    J.

    1. Hi,
I looked into the issue creating a Published Smart Collection. The “field box” is indeed empty when you create the collection, but does contain items when you edit the collection after first creating it. This appears to be due to a bug in Lightroom. I’ll see if it can addressed, but at least there is the work around of editing the smart collection after it has been created.
Lightroom likes to be the master for a published collection. If the plug-in allowed you to select an existing album for a published collection then it is likely that there will be photos in the online album that are not in the local Lightroom album. Do you have a different use case?
      Thanks.

  7. Thanks for the plugin, I’ve registered it but now have some questions.
    1. When I publish multiple photos from a published collection, only the first photo goes to Published Photos, the others remain in New Photos to be Published. All photos actually upload to picasa.

    2. Your guide mentions File/Plugin Extras…..mine shows ‘none defined’

    3. Also your guide shows plugin settings….I don’t have near the number of settings that you show. The last show on my list is ‘watermarking’, don’t have ‘albums in published service, web delete options, etc.

    4. You also talk of % showing on the upload indicator in the top left of LR, mine only shows a progress bar, no %.

Well thats it for now. # 1 is of concern.
    Thanks
    Peter

      1. You question 1 was definitely due to a recently introduced bug. This has now been fixed – thanks for your help in helping fix this and also for your patience!
For your questions 2, 3 and 4, you have definitely followed a guide for a different plug-in. That guide is not relevant for this plug-in – but you have highlighted that the guide for this plug-in needs to cover how to use Published Collections – will add that info over the next week or so.
Keep an eye on this page:

        Thanks.

  8. Hi this looks ideal and I git here via a link on the Adobe Lightroom download plug-in link but cant see how to download this and pay.

One other question which I hope you can help a newbie with is why do this rather than use Lightroom and also Picasa desktop to also track the photo’s on ones machine and then use Picasa to upload. I’m sure this clearly illustrates my newbie nature and look forward to a gentle response on my ignorance.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Jamie

    1. Hi,
There is a download link on this page called ‘Download “Picasa Web Upload”‘. It is underneath the list of features.
You can certainly use both Lightroom and the Picasa desktop software to upload your photos to Picasa Web/Google+.
However some folks, me included, prefer to stay within Lightroom to do this.
This plugin also integrates with Lightroom’s Publish Collections capability that allows you to create and manage Collections in Lightroom and upload those to Picasa Web/Google+.
Feel free to try the download link and see what the plug-in does before considering if you think it is worth purchasing a full license.

    2. I used to use the Picasa desktop software, but switched over to Lightroom. Picasa desktop is great and easy to use, but Lightroom allows for more flexibility and has a wider range of editing tools. Picasa desktop can sync more seamlessly Picasa Web, while Lightroom has plugins that can be used to upload to many different web sites, like Picasa, Facebook, Flickr, Smugmug, etc.

This plugin by NewPProducts makes the link between Lightroom and Picasa Web very easy.

If all you want to do is post family/friend photos to the web with basic or no editing, then I would say that Picasa desktop software is sufficient. If you want to improve your photography by doing more advanced editing, or publish photos to multiple web sites, then Lightroom is a better bet.

  9. Is there any way to keep trace in Lightroom catalog of what photos have been uploaded to Picasa? Or any filters or collections that can do this?

    1. I think if you need to keep track in Lightroom catalogs of the photos you’ve uploaded then you need to use Lightroom’s publish capability in conjunction with Lightroom’s catalogs. If you’ve purchased the full version of this plug-in then I’m more than happy to share with you an in-development version that works with Lightroom’s publish capability. But for most folks, using the publish capabilities and maintaining catalogs is “overkill” and detracts from getting photos onto Picasa Web and Google+ as quickly as possible.

      1. Hi Rob,
I have just purchased the full version. I would like to try the in-dev version with the publishing option… Please send me.

          1. Hi, I’ve seen this plugin today the first time and purched the full version immediately for to see how it works as publish service. I’ve setted it up, added a smart collection and published it. I’ve seen that the images uploaded didn’t move from ‘New Photos to Publish’ to ‘Published Photos’, all other publish services I know are doing so. After 300 images it crashed (?:0: attempt to index field ‘_agXml’ (a nil value)). After restarting it it uploaded the same images again, now I see them at PicasaWeb twice. When it crashed again and I’ll restart it I’ll see them three times? Are you still working on this plugin?

  10. No issues with installation, and super easy to use. Thanks for the great support as well, in addressing and resolving my questions. This has made my LR to Picasa workflow much, much easier than before.

    1. Hi, this plug-in is for Exporting (i.e. via the Export button) only. Not for Publishing. I’ve tried to make this as clear as possible on these Web pages.
      Thanks.

  11. I edit a picture. I right click. I select Export with Previous. Each and every time it asks me to what folder I am going to upload. (I have the paid version.) I do not like this. I chose “Export with Previous” and would prefer if the folder to upload was also the same as the previous upload.

    1. Hi. The latest version of the plug-in now has an option to use the last album that was uploaded to. This is as close as I can get to what you ask for because Lightroom does not tell the plug-in that you clicked “Export with Previous” instead of “Export”. Hope it is useful if not 100% what you wanted.

    1. This plug-in today only supports a single Picasa account at a time.
If there is significant demand to support multiple accounts then I can add that capability.

  12. Does your plugin support titles/captions? I tried exporting a folder, and I have a title for each of the photos, but they didn’t show up in Picasa. Is there some setting I need to change?

    1. The plug-in supports Captions. If the plug-in supported Titles, where should it put the Title? I can’t see an obvious place. Lightroom puts the Caption text into the Picasa photo Caption property (via EXIF).

      1. I used the FB plugin, and it looks at both Title and Caption, and whichever one of them is not empty, uses that for the text below the photo.

I can switch to using Caption, if I can figure out a way to copy the Title values to Caption in Lightroom.

        1. I’ve updated the plug-in (now v1.0.11) to combine a photo’s title and caption from Lightroom into one caption field for Picasa Web.
I think this should be good for you, but do please let me know. Thanks.

          1. Thanks, that did the trick.

If you only fill in the title field, it leaves a trailing comma, but I can live with that.

          2. Looks like the comma was my fault. It only appeared in the one test picture I tried first (naturally).

            Thanks again.

          3. Phew – was scratching my head where a comma might have come from!

Thanks for confirming the Title and Caption combining has done the trick for you.

  13. File size.

Is there limitations on jpeg file size ? If so , how to change it,if possible.
NEF are too big but 100kb jpeg SOOO small for what I need.

    Thank you

  14. I can’t seem to get GPS tags to upload properly to Picasa. I can see the GPS metadata in Lightroom (using v. 3.6) but when exporting, the location data does not show up in Picasa. Is this a functionality that is supposed to work with your plugin, or is it not included? Any way you could include this ability?

    Thank you

    1. You were correct, GPS location data was not being uploaded to Picasa Web.
I’ve now added this capability in 1.0.9 of the plug-in. Please download the latest version and let me know how you get on. Thanks!

  15. plug-in working fine on LR4.1 Win7 home premium. don’t know if you care, the word authorise has 2 spellings; the other being ‘authorize’ more commonly seen in the U.S.

    1. Heh – British/international spelling of English versus American spelling. I will consider being consistent with Lightroom’s use of English and use AmericaniZed spellings in a future version :-)

  16. it seems that this download is only for windows, even though it says windows/mac on the lightroom site. i am not seeing the .lrplugin file extension when i download the zip. Can you let me know how to install on a mac?

    1. Hi – based on this I’ve tidied up the Installation guide to give a few more instructions and screenshots.

Lightroom does specifically ask for a .lrplugin folder but it is more than happy to accept a .lrdevplugin folder.

  17. The plugin works great and all, but I see one issue with my album: the tags from lightroom do not get synced to picasa. My picasa album is completely tagless. Cheers, Steven.

    1. Hmmm – I don’t use tags so they have had no attention from me.
I will look into this, but can you confirm you mean the entries in Lightroom’s Keyword Tags panel (with Will Export selected)? And you would like each entry to map to a Tag in Picasa Web? Thanks.

    2. Thanks for the tags suggestion and your help. Version 1.0.8 of the plug-in now uploads Lightroom Keywords to Picasa Web as Tags.

      1. Hi
I have a problem with export images.
Even though I select Export Metadata “Copyright Only”, the tags are still sent. You can change the plug-in order to export the tags according to what you select an option Metadata?
        by Google Translate ;)

        1. Thanks for the feedback. There is now a newer version (1.1.8) of the plug-in that will look at the metadata export settings and respect them.
Please try out the latest plug-in and let me know how you get on.

          1. Now keywords export works great. Thanks for the quick reaction.

I have a new problem with the plug-in. Although we introduce the license key from time to time shows the message “You have free unlicensed version …” and I have to enter the code again. Why is this happening?

          2. Hmmm, I don’t experience that myself unless I play around with User Presets. Each User Preset stores its own copy of the license key so if you click on a User Export that has no license key saved then you will need to enter one again. Are you using User Presets?
            Thanks.
