Upgrading (PWU)

When uploading photos to Picasa Web, there are two Lightroom plug-ins available:

  1. Photo Upload. This is a newer plug-in that works with Picasa Web, Google Drive, Sky Drive and others. This plug-in works with Lightroom 3, 4 and 5 on Windows and Mac. It is in active development and receives updates and fixes as necessary.
  2. Picasa Web Upload. This is the original plug-in. Other than working with the latest versions of Lightroom, this plug-in no longer receives significant updates.

If you are upgrading your version of Picasa Web Upload then choose one of the options below:

Option 1 – Migrate to the newer Photo Upload upload

The newer Photo Upload plug-in contains all the capabilities of the original Picasa Web Upload plug-in.

Photo Upload works with Lightroom 3, 4 and 5.

As well as including extra features, Photo Upload also allows you to upload to various other online photo services such as Dropbox, Google Drive and Sky Drive.

If you have purchased a license for Picasa Web Upload then this license will also work with Photo Upload.

There is only one reason not to migrate to Photo Upload. If you are using Lightroom’s published services (i.e. published and smart collections) with Picasa Web Upload then in order to keep your collections you need to keep using Picasa Web Upload.

The latest version is available from the Photo Upload page.

Simply follow the Installation instructions from that page.

Option 2 – Upgrade to the latest Picasa Web Upload

If you cannot migrate to Photo Upload then you can keep on using Picasa Web Upload.

The latest version is available from the Picasa Web Upload page.

Simply follow the Installation instructions from that page.

The latest version of Picasa Web Upload allows licensed plug-ins to work with Lightroom 5. If you do not have a license then you should migrate to Photo Upload to upload your photos to Picasa Web.
